Thinking about going green?

Look no further than Amy Smart and Carter Oosterhouse for advice on how to live more environmentally friendly.

The couple, who had a green wedding in Nov. 2011, "recycled everything" on their big day, ending up with just a small amount of trash when their ceremony and reception came to an end.

We caught up with the duo at the Environmental Media Awards Saturday, where they shared a few tips for betrothed stars, like Hayden Panettiere, on how to make their weddings green as well.

"We tried our best," Smart told E! News' Marc Malkin and Ali Fedotowsky. "We tried to use as much compostable, recyclable, local ingredients and at the end of day we had half a bag of trash."

And they just might be one of the most environmentally-friendly couples around.

The actress and her HGTV host hubby actually met while working on a garden for a school.

"We met through the Environmental Media Association and we were assigned to adopt a school garden together to mentor," Smart said. "Then, we became friends for a long time….we were both in relationships [at the time]."

"Because of that we feel like we have to come to [the EMAs]," Oosterhouse added, with a laugh.

Find out what other tips Carter and Oosterhouse had for going green, plus what they consider to be a green date in the clip above!
