You just can't keep a good serial killer down.

Though infamous murderer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) was confirmed dead in The Following's season-one finale, we all knew better. And apparently so does our leading man Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon), the FBI agent responsible for ending Joe's spree of killings.

We've got your exclusive first look at season two of last year's No. 1 new series, which finds Ryan Hardy out for revenge. Plus, the new promo seems to confirm the death of a major character!

"Catching Joe Carroll cost me everything and everyone," Ryan says in the promo. "Now we all want to believe he's dead, but I say he's out there. I'm going to find him and I want revenge." The "everyone" Ryan is referring to? Longtime love (and Joe's ex-wife) Claire (Natalie Zea), whose picture is shown in the promo. Of course, the finale ended with Ryan and Claire finding themselves fighting for their lives after being stabbed by one of Joe's followers.

But with season one's losses comes new faces in season two: 90210 star Jessica Stroup will take on the series regular role of Ryan's cop niece, while Gladiator's Connie Nielsen will play a new love interest for the hardened detective. Plus, Dexter's Sam Underwood will stir up trouble as a new baddie and Homeland's Valerie Cruz will recur as FBI agent Gina Mendez. True Blood's Carrie Preston will guest star as Joe Carroll's most devoted groupie.

Season two will pick up a year after the events of the finale, with the FBI asking Ryan and Weston (Shawn Ashmore) to help them solve a new murder spree, which Lily (Nielsen) is the lone survivor of. The new case and the individuals it puts the FBI in contact with leads Ryan to believe Joe is still alive and has no plans of ending his reign of terror.

The Following returns in January on Fox.
