It smells like Nirvana may be heading to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The iconic grunge band, along with rock band KISS, rapper LL Cool J, rock and soul duo Hall and Oates and singer Linda Ronstadt, are among the artists who have been nominated for election in next year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it was announced on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Rounding out the deep and diverse list are The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Deep Purple, Peter Gabriel, The Meters, N.W.A., The Replacements, Cat Stevens, Link Wray, Yes and The Zombies.

According to a statement from the Rock Hall, in order to be eligible for nomination, the "artist or band must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination." The inductees are then "chosen by a secret ballot of more than 600 individual voters consisting of all past inductees of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, musicians, historians, critics and members of the music industry."

The 29th Annual Induction Ceremony will be held in April 2014 in New York City.

Rock on and congrats to all of the nominees!
