This awards season could end up being all about losers.
As E! News was the first to tell you, Jon Hamm and Amy Poehler decided hosted a party after the Emmys for all of the night's losers. Winners weren't allowed in unless they donated $1,000 to Worldwide Orphans. By the end of the bash, $30,000 was raised for the children's organization.
Poehler tells me she'd love to have losers parties after every major awards show. "I think it should be a requirement," she said at Variety's Power of Women luncheon, where she was honored for her work with Worldwide Orphans. "In that time of self-celebration it might be nice to remember other people as well."
Worldwide Orphans founder Dr. Jane Aronson stressed it doesn't have to be just about raising funds for WWO. "We don't care who you give it to," she said. "It's not about my foundation. It's just about everyone picking a cause and sticking to that. If everyone did that we wouldn't have as many problems as we have today."
Hamm told us that the idea for the losers party was inspired by a bash Kristen Wiig threw at her hotel after last year's Emmys.
"We called it the Losers Lounge because nobody that was there won and it kind of stuck," Hamm said. "We were like, ‘That was a really fun party. We should do that again, but we should do it bigger and better and invite our friends who aren't going to win either and we'll have a good time with it.'"
Poehler called her and Hamm's first losers outing "a big success."
She laughed, "There are so many beautiful losers at the Emmy Awards."
Among those who hit the party were Girls' Allison Williams, Amber Tamblyn, Tina Fey, Aziz Ansari, John Slattery, Elisabeth Moss, Adam Scott, Jane Krakowski, Seth Meyers, Robin Wright, Jimmy Kimmel, Judd Apatow, Zooey Deschanel and Fred Armisen.
