It's tormented, it's twisted and it's downright terrifying. Welcome to The Originals.

Last season fans tuned in to the heart-pounding backdoor pilot for The Originals, where we were transported to the dark and dangerous vampire playground of New Orleans. The werewolves are gone, the witches are being kept on magical lockdown, and only the elite are allowed to walk in the daylight. There are strict rules in New Orleans and unless you're willing to face a fate worse than death, we highly suggest you mind Marcel's wishes. He won't tell you twice.

Got it? Great. Now please excuse us while we gush over the many, many reasons that you need to tune in to the series premiere of this deliciously dark drama tonight at 9 p.m.

Family Flashbacks: InThe Vampire Diaries, we got a teeny taste of just how powerful and feared the Originals are, but here in New Orleans, the terror from just whispering their names (Elijah, Rebecca, Klaus…) is enough to give body-trembling chills as you look over your shoulder. Through fascinating flashbacks, you will get to know even more about the original vampire family and how they secured their status as one of the founding members of the new world.

Tonight's special broadcast (the drama's regular airing will be Tuesdays at 8 p.m.) will one again follow Klaus' return to New Orleans but with a dashing twist—this episode is told through Elijah's eyes. That's right, ladies, try not to all swoon at once! Oh, and if you need a little Klaus-hybrid refresher, The Originals was kind enough to give us a crash course of the Mikaelson's bloodthirsty origins in tonight's special episode.

Do You Do Voodoo? Thanks to Mystic Falls, we're already pretty familiar with magic, but these witches of New Orleans make Bonnie Bennett's (Kat Graham) powers look like a cheesy off-the-strip Las Vegas act. (Sorry Bonnie! RIP.) These ladies are tough and they're not going to let Marcel's magic ban stop them from unleashing their dark arts. And in a surprising twist, we find ourselves rooting for Team Witches rather than Team Vamps in NOLA. However, we're not completely in sold with the main witch Sophie (Daniella Pineda). It's difficult to root for someone when her passion comes across as unnecessary aggression against our beloved Elijah and Klaus. Plus, leave our precious hybrid-baby alone!

Hauntingly Handsome: Now, let's get to the real reason why y'all need to pay close attention to this sexy new series: the fellas! From the brooding badass Elijah to Klaus's raw and intense passion and newbie hottie Marcel, The Originals is jam-packed with eye candy for all you vampire lovers out there. Plus, we'll finally get to know more about Elijah's cool yet always mysterious demeanor and maybe be able to crack through Klaus' psychotic psyche and see him finally have happiness. And speaking of happiness, we're sure there's one little blonde who could help him out with that! Oh, sorry, Rebecca, we were talking about Caroline (Candice Accola).

Verdict: Watch. With its high-stakes drama and it's dark and sexy undertones The Originals is like The Vampire Diaries on steroids. In the best way possible, of course!
