Simon Cowell Will Be Present When Lauren Silverman Gives Birth, Source Says

X Factor judge is "very committed to being there for the birth" of his firstborn son

Simon Cowell's dry delivery is often misinterpreted.

Case in point: During his Sept. 24 On Air With Ryan Seacrest radio interview, the X Factor creator said he won't be present for the birth of his first child. "Are you out of your mind?" he quipped. "There are certain things you shouldn't see and that is one of them."

Truth be told, the future first-time father can't wait to be by girlfriend Lauren Silverman's side. "Don't believe everything Simon says about not being in the delivery room. He jokes around a lot," one of Silverman's close pals tells E! News exclusively. "I'm sure he was just trying to be funny. He's very committed to being there for the birth."

During his chat with pal Ryan Seacrest, 53-year-old Cowell also hinted that he's planning to propose at some point. "I wouldn't expect Lauren to be a single mother," he said of the brunette beauty, 36.

If Cowell does indeed pop the question, Silverman would gladly say yes. "Lauren very much wants to marry Simon and is looking forward to becoming his wife," her pal explains.

Silverman's friend also predicts the couple's wedding will "be a small, quiet affair" as opposed to a "Hollywood blowout." As it stands, however, "no plans have been made."

"They know they want to marry, but there aren't any concrete plans yet," the friend says.

Cowell will continue to work on The X Factor in California while Silverman preps for their son's arrival in New York. Luckily, the mom-to-be is receiving additional aid from her younger sister, Nicole, who lives in Florida. "She'll be spending more and more time in New York as the birth nears," Silverman's pal tells E! News. "The two of them are very close and it's important to Nicole to be there for her sister."

Sounds like Cowell and Silverman have got it all figured out!
