"When we shot the final final scene," Michael C. Hall told fans tonight at the Farewell to Dexter event at the Paley Center, "it was like the feeling when you read a really great book and you read that last page and something is hovering in the air. It was like that times a 100."
Sorry we totally just ruined the entire ending for you there.
Yeah, shockingly (to no one), the cast and producers didn't want to say much of anything about how the series will wrap up on Sept. 22. They want you to...um, watch.
"There is a storm coming," executive producer Sara Colleton teased. While executive producer Scott Buck added, "everything happens fast." And Jennifer Carpenter (Deb) simiply refered to the fnale as "satisfying."
However, Carpenter did firmly deny she will ever do a Deb spinoff, as previously rumored, saying,"I think I have played Deb from start to finish." Colleton quickly added that "Anything is possible," but Carpenter shook her head and mouthed, "No."
And the event, despite the lack of spoilers (and really, who actually wants to be spoiled?!), proved to be sentimental and saucy, with the cast playing a game of "Kiss, Marry, Kill" (a PG verson of FMK), at the request of the wickedly inappropriate moderator. (Oh wait, that was me! Whoops, sorry. #notsorry)

- Geoff Pierson (Deputy Chief Tom Matthews) : Kiss Deb. Kiss Hannah. Kiss LaGuerta.
- Yvonne Strahovski (Hannah): Kiss Deb. Marry Dexter. Kill Batista.
- Amiee Garcia (Jamie): Kill Quinn. Kiss Harrison on the cheek. Kill Dexter.
- Sara Colleton (producer): Kiss Dexter on the cheek. Marry Doakes. Kill Trinity.
- Michael C. Hall (Dexter): Round one (Love interests): Kiss Deb. Marry Hannah. Kill Rita. Round two (Nemeses): Kiss Lila. Kill Trinity. "And I'll marry my brother Rudy. I always wondered how that would go!" I mean, haven't we all?!
Jennifer Carpenter playfully declined to play after hearing that Dexter (her ex-husband Michael C Hall) was one of her choices: "No. Pass," she said with a laugh, then leaned in to ask me, "You understand why this is loaded, right?
To that end, the most awkward question of the night (year?) came from an audience member who asked Michael and Jennifer: "How was it working together after divorce?"
Michael and Jennifer could not have handled the question more eloquently.
"It's gratifying, honestly," Hall replied. "The fact that Jennifer and I worked through whatever was going on with us personally in the way we did and maintained our commitment to telling this story was never in question. It was always what we needed and wanted to do."
Jennifer choked up a little as she told the audience: "I feel like marriage is sort of like a generic label. Our marriage didn't look like anyone else's. And our divorce didn't either. So, I've said it before and we've said it before. Just because the marriage ended doesn't mean the love did. It's an awkward thing to talk about your personal life in front of a bunch of strangers, but there's nothing but love and respect. Nothing."
The audience erupted in applause.
As a lovely parting gift, some of the cast revealed they walked away with a piece of the set — Michael admits to taking Dexter's watch, Miami Metro lanyard and part of the banister from Dexter's apartment building — but more than that, they all remain eternally grateful for getting to be a part of such a satisfying show. "I wanted to be there every day I was there, whether I was in one scene or three scenes," said David Zayas ( Batista). "It was always an exciting thing for me."
Michael thanked fans for their support, and quipped: "One thing that was beyond our wildest dreams or beyond mine was that somehow the simulation of arguably justifiable serial murder could bring people together...And truly that's a heck of a thing."
