Usher's ex-wife, Tameka Foster, stopped by Good Morning America to speak out about their son's near-death drowning last week.
The former couple's 5-year-old son Usher Raymond V was hospitalized after almost drowning while trying to retrieve a toy that was stuck in an underwater pool drain, according to an Atlanta police report.
Tameka explained that her children have never been injured under her supervision but said she doesn't fully fault her husband for the scary situation.
"I don't blame him," she said. "But I'm angry it happened on his watch."
Immediately following the incident, Tameka filed an emergency custody hearing, but a judge dismissed her motion to have temporary custody of their two sons. Usher currently has primary custody of both children.
But despite the drama, Tameka insists that her relationship with her former husband will always have some level of respect, if only for the couple's children's sake.
When asked whether or not she hates Usher, she quickly replied, "Absolutely not. He's the father of my children and I love my children more than life itself."
Tameka also explained how the terrifying ordeal reminded her of when her 11-year-old son, Kile Glover, died in a boating accident about a year ago.
"It was like I relived it. My brain went into all these modes. I'd gotten this call before," she explained.
Ultimately, Tameka expressed her desire to see more of her children.
"I want to have first right of refusal," she said. "[If Usher is in town] I don't want them to go home to the nanny and watch whatever show their dad is on. They should be home with their mom."
The child at the center of this family storm has since been released from the hospital. Tameka shared a photo of little Usher on her Instagram and thanked fans for their get well wishes and prayers.
