The couple welcomed their first child, a baby girl, on June 28 in West Hollywood, Calif., Stewart confirms to E! News.
"I had one sperm left—and it dog-paddled its way to victory," the actor tells E! News. "Vanessa and I feel truly blessed to welcome 'the new roommate.' A house, a job, good family, good friends, a baby, some dogs. What else is there?"
The little one—whom the proud parents named Helene Claire—was born six weeks early at 7 a.m. Friday morning and "could be held in the palm of your hand," Stewart tells People magazine.
And he also shares how the duo paid tribute to their daughter's paternal and maternal sides when choosing a moniker for their bundle of joy.
"We named her after my lovely mother. My sister is also a Helene," he explains. "There are five wonderful Claires in Vanessa's family so the tradition of it is very special for us."
French and Vanessa wed in June 2011.
The 49-year-old star is best known for his role as Harry Solomon on the hit NBC comedy, which aired from 1996 to 2001.
He will soon be seen on the small screen this fall in the Chuck Lorre-created series Mom, which premieres Sept. 23 on CBS.
"In the daytime I work on a special new show [Mom] with wonderful people," the new dad tells People, admitting he's had no trouble balancing work and family life. "And at night I have new adventures with Vanessa and Helene."
