Neil Patrick Harris is getting in touch with his feminine side for his upcoming turn in the Broadway adaptation of Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

"I'm going to have to do a lot of shaving and tucking," Harris said yesterday at the L.A. premiere of The Smurfs 2.

He sure is!

Earlier this summer, it was announced that the How I Met Your Mother actor will star in the musical as Hedwig, an East German transgender singer and leader of a rock-and-roll band.

Hedwig is scheduled to open on Broadway next spring.

"I am simultaneously ecstatic and terrified to be stepping into Hedwig's heels," Harris said when the project was announced. "It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime rolea, and I can't wait to begin the journey."

Harris is no stranger to the stage. Not only has he hosted the Tonys but he starred opposite Anne Heche in the drama Proof and played the Emcee in Cabaret in 2003.

Harris recently told E! News that he and his family—partner David Burtka and their twins, Harper and Gideon—are planning to relocate from Los Angeles to New York.
