Kevin Spacey couldn't wheel and deal his way out of this one.

The House of Cards star found himself up to his ankles in flood water on Wentworth Street during a weekend trip to Charleston, S.C.—a perfect time for a photo op, apparently.

"I had a great time in Charleston, SC. Beautiful summer weather," he tweeted today.

Sure enough, downtown Charleston flooded on Sunday after heavy rains (a regular occurrence, according to the Post and Courier), keeping the city's firefighters and other rescue workers busy. More than 2 inches of rain fell between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., local time, but luckily there were no reports of any major issues.

So why wouldn't have Spacey been in a good mood, despite being a little soggy around the edges? He did make TV history last week, after all!

His Netflix series, the twisted political drama House of Cards, led all digital programming with nine Emmy nominations, including Best Drama, Best Actor for Spacey (whose Rep. Frank Underwood represents South Carolina) and Best Actress for Robin Wright.

"I'm delighted not only we got nine nominations, but Netflix ended up with 14, which is pretty brilliant. It's a new paradigm," Spacey told the Wall Street Journal after the nods were announced.

Viewers "can let the show develop as they choose," he continued. "I've had people come up to me and say, ‘Thank you, you sucked three days out of my life.' Or other people watch some, wait three weeks and watch more, so it's really given the audience the opportunity to make their own decision."

And plenty of viewers voted yea on season one. Season two is already well into production "and it's been even more fun and incredible than shooting season one was," Spacey said. "I'm loving it."
