The crowd wanted a scare this weekend.

Viewers were eager to follow the journey of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who were working to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse in The Conjuring, making the newly released thriller the No. 1 movie at the box office this weekend.

The film, which stars Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson brought in over $41.5 million opening weekend, knocking Despicable Me 2 off the top spot.
