Talk about a match made in sitcom heaven!

While we're still bitter about Happy Endings' recent cancellation, this casting news helps soften the devastating blow. Adam Pally, aka fan favorite Max, is set to join the cast of The Mindy Project's second season, E! News has confirmed. Excuse us for a moment while we vomit rainbows and glitter over this news.

First Mindy Kaling casts James Franco as a character named Dr. Leotard, and then she follows that up by snagging Pally, one of our most beloved comedic actors? It's like she's Inception-ed our brains! So who is Pally, who also made a memorable appearance in this summer's blockbuster Iron Man 3, playing?

Like Franco, Pally will be playing one of Mindy's fellow doctors at the OB/GYN practice, though no details about who exactly he'll be playing have been released. Fans can expect to see Pally hanging around the Shulman & Associates office for a multi-episode arc.

Pally isn't the first Happy Endings' star to head to a hit Fox sitcom in the wake of their cancellation: Damon Wayans Jr. is set to return to New Girl as Coach, the character he played in the pilot before dropping out after Happy Endings was renewed for a second season by ABC. (Oh, the good old days!)

TV Line first reported the news of Pally's casting.

The Mindy Project returns Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 9 p.m. on Fox.
