New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez was arrested on Wednesday morning at his home in North Attleboro, Mass., 11 days after the body of acquaintance Odin Lloyd was found near the football player's home.

No word yet on the charges against him, but according to a press release, Bristol District Attorney C. Samuel Sutter will meet with the media and issue a statement following Hernandez's arraignment.

Meanwhile, the Patriots have released a statement that the tight end has been dropped by the team in the wake of his arrest.

"A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss. Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do."

Hernandez was drafted by the Patriots in 2010. Last summer, the team signed him to a long-term contract worth about $40 million.
