Now that summer is in full swing, there's plenty of temptation to soak up the sun and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities. 

But before you bask in those UV rays, we'd highly recommend protecting your precious skin with from the inside out. 

Lifestyle expert Laurel House visited E! News recently and offered some valuable insight to Giuliana Rancic and guest cohost Lance Bass.

When it comes to selecting a sunscreen, House recommends reading labels, just like you would a food product.

"You don't want Vitamin A. It's great with night creams, but when exposed to the sun, it makes tumors develop faster," she explains.

Eek! Good to know.

As for smart foods that nourish and protect, the beauty guru offered up healthy offerings of pomegranates, micro-algae and sweet potatoes for a natural, effortless glow, and recommends bananas, avocados and frozen grapes to soothe a painful sunburn.
