James Gandolfini rarely opened up to the press about his work as Tony Soprano on the hit HBO series The Sopranos, but when he did, everyone listened.

Here's a flashback of the actor in the press room at the 2003 Emmy Awards after he won for Best Actor in a Lead Drama.

In the clip, the actor explains that "it's bittersweet" that he won the award without his costars being acknowledged for their performances.

"It's a great show and we've done some good work," he also said.

Gandolfini did explain one thing he wished the series showed less of, and it wasn't the violence or gore that the show received some flack for.

"They show me in my underwear far too much," he recalled.

The beloved TV star passed yesterday in Italy at the age of 51 while in town for the Taormina Film Festival. He was discovered collapsed in his bathroom at Hotel Boscolo by his teenage son, Michael.
