Kathryn Fiore has a lot to be thankful for.

The actress and husband Gabriel Tigerman, who has appeared on Supernatural and Grey's Anatomy, welcomed their first child on Tuesday, May 28, a baby girl named Alice Harper Fiore Tigerman weighing in at 7 pounds and 3 ounces, People reports.

But the long labor and emergency C-section brought on numerous complications for both the child and Fiore.

According to a Give Forward online fundraiser that has been set up for the Hollywood star, baby Alice was struggling to breathe after birth and was rushed to NICU while Fiore fought for her life.

"Kathryn then went into septic shock and complete organ failure: her heart, lungs, kidneys, and liver stopped functioning while clotting threatened her limbs. The odds were stacked heavily against her."

Doctors weren't sure what had gone wrong, but mentioned that it may have been a rare blood disease called HUS that's triggered by pregnancy and surgery.

After 12 days of undergoing life-saving procedures, including emergency dialysis, Fiore stabilized. The site says, "The doctors call this a miracle. Without a doubt, it is a testament to Kathryn's strength, spirit and to all of our love and prayers."

Alice remained in the NICU for ten days before being able to head home.

But Fiore still has a long road to recovery, according to the website, which states she'll be needing physical therapy and more dialysis, along with "many months of extended medical care and treatment," before she can join her husband and newborn baby.

The family, who is asking for a total of $200,000 in donations to help with funds, have raised close to $49,000 so far.
