Prince Philip won't be having the birthday weekend one would hope for.

The royal, who turns 92 next Monday, has been hospitalized again in London, this time to undergo surgery.

"His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh has been admitted to the London Clinic for an exploratory operation following abdominal investigations," the palace said in a statement. "He is expected to stay in hospital for up to two weeks. Further updates will be issued when appropriate."

Queen Elizabeth II's husband of 65 years canceled his scheduled appearance at a gala reception for the Royal National Institute of Blind People at St. James' Palace on Monday due to illness, but he was hale enough the following day to attend a coronation service marking his wife's 60 years on the throne in the U.K.

The nonagenarian royal underwent emergency surgery to repair a blocked coronary artery at Christmas time in 2011. He was also briefly hospitalized during the queen's Diamond Jubilee celebration last June to be treated for a bladder infection.

Best wishes to the prince, who is due to become a first-time great-grandfather in July when his grandson Prince William welcomes his first child with Kate Middleton.
