The new trailer for Getaway is out, and by the looks of this action-thriller—a sort of mash-up of Fast & Furious, Drive and Taken (at least that's how we imagine the pitch)—the two stars have their work cut out for them as they race against the clock to stop a ruthless kidnapper.
Hawke plays Brent, a former race-car driver who finds himself caught up in a game of deadly cat-and-mouse with a mysterious caller (voiced by Paul Freeman, the villainous Belloq from Raiders of the Lost Ark), who has taken his wife and threatens to kill her unless Brent follows his instructions.
Behind the wheel of his Mustang, Hawke must follow the man's orders only to hit a roadblock in the form of The Kid, a gun-wielding young carjacker played by Gomez who tries to commandeer his vehicle. Of course, she gets caught up in the villain's nefarious plot, and the two must somehow figure a way to get his missus back.
For the 20-year-old singer-actress, the role once again finds her leaving her Disney days behind with a more adult-themed movie as she did with Spring Breakers—though whether or not moviegoers buy her baby-faced criminal act in this flick as they did in the latter remains to be seen.
Getaway hits theaters on Aug. 30.
