Channing Tatum, who recently welcomed daughter Everly into the world, is ready for daddy duty. Well, as ready as one can be.

"I don't think you can prepare," the 33-year-old actor tells Vanity Fair. "It's a bit of a freestyle."

But the Magic Mike star does have a pretty good sense of how he wants to approach fatherhood.

"I'm just going to be a good friend to my kid," Tatum says. "One thing I definitely want to change is that whole 'I don't want you to make the same mistakes' mentality. My dad didn't have much money growing up; he didn't have much education. He forced that on me, and I didn't want it."

Sounds like little Everly is in good hands!

Tatum and wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum became proud parents to their first child last Friday.

"Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Channing Tatum are thrilled to announce the birth of their daughter, Everly Tatum, who was born on May 31st in London," read a message posted to Channing's website. "Sending love and light to Chan, Jenna and Ms. Everly!"
