While out at a Hollywood nightclub over the weekend, Simpson told TMZ that Lachey's recent negative comments caught him off guard.
"But I still love Nick," he said. "I think he was a good husband to my daughter."
Simpson further added that he "would still have a beer with him today."
Lachey originally told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live last month that "the best thing about not having Joe Simpson anymore as a father-in-law is I don't have to play grab-ass under the table on Easter Sunday."
