The golf superstar's rival apologized profusely for a crude quip he made in the duo's two week war of words—a comment which Woods subsequently called "inappropriate" for its racist undertones.
"I want to send an unreserved apology. I did not want to offend anyone," Garcia told reporters on Wednesday. "My answer was totally stupid and out of place."
Per ESPN, Garcia was at a European Tour Awards dinner on Tuesday night when he was asked whether he'd consider having Tiger over for dinner to make peace, to which the Spaniard cracked, "We'll have him 'round every night. We will serve fried chicken."
Realizing he stepped in it, Garcia released a statement after the event saying he was sorry for the remark, then hastily convened a press conference this afternoon at the BMW PGA Championship to offer a further mea culpa.
"I want to apologize to Tiger and anybody that I could have offended," Garcia elaborated. "I feel sick about it. I'm truly, truly sorry. And I hope we can kind of settle things down and hopefully move on."
He continued: "I answered a question that was clearly made towards me as a joke with a silly remark, but in no way was the comment meant in a racist manner."
This morning before the presser, Woods clearly wasn't amused, tweeting: "The comment that was made wasn't silly. It was wrong, hurtful and clearly inappropriate."
Tiger later expressed hope the two could move on from the controversy.
"I'm confident that there is real regret that the remark was made," Woods said, adding: "The Players ended nearly two weeks ago and it's long past time to move on and talk about golf."
The feud got started during the Players Championship when Woods took a club out from his bag, seemingly distracting Garcia whose shot then went wayward.
Here's hoping his apology ends it once and for all.
