The Vampire Diaries star stepped out in New Orleans Tuesday, less than a week after reports surfaced that he and his costar turned girlfriend Nina Dobrev have called it quits.
The 34-year-old Somerhalder, a Louisiana native, has reportedly been staying local and hunkering down with his family.
He was spotted hanging with father as they popped into a gas station to grab a drink, and the actor, wearing jeans and a dark V-neck shirt, later surveyed a patch of land in the area.
Somerhalder and Dobrev, 24, met in 2009 on the set of their hit CW series and dated for three years.
Although both have so far remained mum about their relationship status, the actor raised eyebrows when he posted a crytpic tweet last week, which has since been deleted.
"A THOUGHT FOR TODAY: People change and forget to tell each other. -Lillian Hellman, playwright (1905-1984)," he wrote.
