This...is us breaking the news to Harry Connick Jr. that Randy Jackson is leaving American Idol after this season.

"I had not heard that!" the singer, who guest-mentored the top four finalists and performed on the show last week, told E! News last night at pal Mariska Hargitay's Joyful Heart Foundation Gala.

So, with Randy on his way out (along with Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban, most likely), how does Harry feel about once again hearing his name on the rumored wish list of new Idol judges?

"They're definitely rumors," he said of the chatter that really began all the way back in 2010, when he made his first stellar appearance as guest mentor to season 10's top five.

"People have been so nice to me and have had some nice compliments," Harry said, "and it's really, really flattering."

But the charming crooner really did seem taken aback by the breaking news!

"I'm actually a little bit in shock about Randy," he continued. "I'm sorry for Idol, he's a talented guy. But I'm happy for him. I'm sure that he's going to go off and do what he needs to do, so congratulations to him."
