In some households Thanksgiving and Christmas get massive celebrations, but Mother's Day is special for Blake Lively's family.

"It's like a national holiday in my family!" the face of Gucci Premiere quipped.

All jokes aside, the former Gossip Girl star does take the holiday pretty seriously. Blake says Mother's Day "was always such an important thing growing up because my father always reminded us to celebrate our mother." So how did the Lively clan show their appreciation?

"We would surprise her," Ryan Reynolds' other half says. "[My dad] would wake us up we'd go to the store and get my mom a little corsage and flowers and go to the candy shop and get her favorite chocolates and peanut brittle."

The beauty goes on to explain her mom's day wasn't just R&R. "She's the best cook so the problem was we couldn't go anywhere that had better food than her so she would always cook."

As for her advice for any fans still pondering what to do for this Sunday, the blond bombshell says keep it simple: "Spoil her and make her feel special!"
