HE WANTS TO BE AN EMMY WINNER: Regis Philbin among those receiving Daytime Emmy nominations Wednesday. He has two more chances--for his hosting efforts on Live and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire--to break his eight-year losing streak.

MORE DAYTIME EMMY NEWS: As the World Turns received 25 nominations and All My Children 21 nominations. And, after a one-year absence, Susan Lucci is back among the contenders for best soap actress.

ONE DAY DOWN: A seven-man, five-woman jury has finished the first day of deliberations in the Sean "Puffy" Combs trial without reaching a verdict. If convicted on gun and bribery charges, the rapper could face up to 15 years behind bars.

LOST, BUT NOT FORGOTTEN: The newest celeb edition of ABC's Who Wants to Be a Millionaire will feature former TV stars from 1970s and '80s, including Cindy Williams (Laverne & Shirley), Kim Fields (The Facts of Life) and Melissa Gilbert (Little House on the Prairie). It will air March 20-23.

DREAM ON: Dave Matthews Band holding on to the top slot on the pop album charts as Everyday fends off charge from Aerosmith's latest, Jush Push Play. Eve's Scorpion debuted at number four.

RATINGS SURVIVAL: Fueled by its Monday night sitcoms and Thursday night Survivor-CSI twofer, CBS won the weekly ratings race over ABC and a slipping NBC.

BANDS ON THE RUN: The Backstreet Boys will launch a summer tour in June featuring more than 50 North American arena concerts. Meanwhile, Eden's Crush, the prefab girl group from the WB's Popstars, has been signed as the opening act of 'N Sync's summer North American tour.

MAKING NICE: Kid Rock and his former manager, Stephen Hutton, have issued a statement saying they've reached an amicable settlement to a lawsuit. Hutton sued Rock for $4 million last year for breach of contract. Terms of the settlement weren't disclosed.

DOWNLOADABLE: Billboard reporting that the Black Crowes will make copies of all the shows from their upcoming tour available via the Internet. The downloads will be available through a secure site and fans will get the passwords from the new Black Crowes album, Lions, due May 8.

WHAT ABOUT THAT ACCIDENT? ABC Sports adding Jason Priestley to its Indianapolis 500 broadcast team. The former Beverly Hills 90210 star has been an active race car driver and lifelong fan of the sport.

BORN TO RECORD: Bruce Springsteen is recording again with the E Street Band for a possible future album. The band did a studio version of "American Skin." A live album from is due in April.

TROUBLE ON THE ROAD: Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell lost her British driver's licenseWednesday after getting pulled over outside a small town for going double the speed limit in her sports car.

GETTING OUT: Javier Bardem and Ellen DeGeneres are among those nominated for the first Outfest Screen Idol Awards. Winners will be selected by a national vote online at www. outfest.org. Voting runs from Wednesday through April 15 with winner announced April 20.

SPELLING'S KIDS: Jennie Garth is in final negotiations to star in the title role of NBC's Spy Girl, an hourlong fact-based drama about a 25-year-old Ivy League grad who ends up working as a private eye. Former Melrose Place regulars Courtney Thorne-Smith has landed the role of Jim Belushi's wife in an ABC sitcom pilot and Dan Cortese is set to play the male lead in Ball & Chain, a half-hour sitcom based on a comic book.

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE DIGITAL KIND: Steven Spielberg releasing a special edition version of his landmark 1977 film Close Encounters of the Third Kind on DVD May 29.

ON THE QT: Crime novelist James Ellroy will write his first original screenplay, the urban crime thriller 77. The project is described as a complementary piece to Ellroy's L.A. Confidential.

MACHO MAN: Glenn Hughes, the leather-clad biker member of the Village People, died at age 50 on March 4 after a long illness, The Advocate reported Tuesday. Hughes was with the band from its founding in 1977 until 1995. At his request, Hughes will be buried in his leather outfit.
