Jason Segel, Children's Author: First of Nightmares! Book Series Due Out Next Year

Muppets star is shoring up his big kid credentials with his latest endeavor

After finding success as both a screenwriter and actor in film and television, plus helping to bring The Muppets back to film, it's only natural Jason Segel would add children's author to his growing list of accomplishments.

Random House has announced a deal to publish Nightmares!, a series of children's books written by the comic actor aimed at the middle school set.

Per the publisher, Nightmares! is an adventure story about a group of kids who must save their town from fear after it's been invaded by a host of nightmare creatures that have slipped into the everyday world. He'll co-author the tales with best-selling children's author Kirsten Miller.

"Ultimately, it's a story about learning that we can accomplish anything, as long as we are brave enough to try," said Segel in a statement. "These are the types of stories that always inspire me."

The 33-year-old thespian has some notable writing credits already under his belt, having copenned The Muppets, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek and The Five-Year Engagement.

The first novel in the series hits stores in fall 2014.
