Looks like the Grinch will be spending Christmas alone.

Or at least without his main squeeze. After about a year together, rubber-faced Grinch alter ego Jim Carrey and girlfriend Renée Zellweger have split up, their publicists confirm.

Carrey's rep, Marleah Leslie, acknowledges the two have uncoupled, but says "it's a private matter." Zellweger's publicist, Leslie Sloan, tells E! News Daily that, "as of a couple weeks ago, Jim Carrey and Renée Zellweger are no longer in a relationship." Sloan says they both wanted different things.

What exactly those "things" are is unknown. But Carrey, 38, and the 31-year-old Jerry Maguire actress had been an item for about a year, after they met on the set of Me, Myself & Irene. The summer flick starred Carrey as a state trooper whose multiple personalities fall in love with the cute blonde costar.

"[Carrey] flipped for her immediately," Irene director Bobby Farrelly told People magazine in July. But he added that Zellweger didn't return the favor until after shooting was finished. Said Carrey: "She's absolutely a gem of a human being. She's very funny--even though she can be bashful at certain times." Zellweger, meanwhile, told People her life with Carrey was "boringly, wonderfully normal."

Soon, the lovebirds were everywhere together, including last month's premiere of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Carrey has a thing for blonde costars. The actor was previously married to Dumb and Dumber costar Lauren Holly. The pair divorced in July 1997 after less than a year together. Prior to that, the funnyguy was married to Melissa Womer for six years before their divorce in 1993.
