It only took one degree of Kevin Bacon to spoil The Following's latest stomach-turning twist.

"To all the fans abroad and late watchers I'm truly sorry I retweeted a spoiler," the actor tweeted yesterday. "I just wasn't thinking. Won't happen again. #MyBad."

For good measure, he also posted a Vine video of him repeating "my bad" three times.

(SPOILER ALERT: You may want to stop reading right here if you have not seen Monday's episode.)

So, what did Bacon reveal to be shakin' not long after the newest episode, "The Curse," aired on Fox?

He retweeted this from fan Jodi Gomes: "@kevinbacon is a murderer too! Nice twist @kevwilliamson @thefollowingfox #JoeCarol."

But hang on, it's not what it sounds like.

Bacon's haunted ex-FBI agent, Ryan Hardy, isn't a member of the cult of worship that has formed around serial killer Joe Carroll, played by James Purefoy.

Well, not that we know of, anyway. No, Hardy just let the druggie who killed his dad die of an overdose.

("Murderer" is a little harsh, isn't it? We'd call him more of an eye-for-an-eye enthusiast.)

Purefoy, meanwhile, apparently had no such issues containing his enthusiasm, simply tweeting yesterday: "Thank you to all the the followers of #TheFollowing for their impressions of last night's Ep. Incredible reactions. You are so damn smart."
