Bill and Hillary Clinton's daughter has revealed—in plain, clear terms—that she'd be open to running for public office one day if she felt she'd be able to make a "meaningful" and "measurably greater impact."
In an interview that aired on the Today show Monday, the 33-year-old New York State resident didn't shy away from talk about following in her parents' footsteps with a future in public service, should the calling arise.
"Right now, I'm grateful to live in a city, a state and a country where I strongly support my mayor, my governor, my president and my senators and my representative," the political scion said.
"If at some point that weren't true and I thought I could make a meaningful and measurably greater impact, I'd have to ask and answer that question," she added.
Chelsea also weighed in on steady rumblings that her mother is considering embarking on another bid for the White House in 2016.
"I deeply respect and appreciate all of the admiration and respect and gratitude for my mother's service," Chelsea said. "As a daughter, I very much want her to make the right choice for herself, and I know that will be [the] right choice for our country, and I'll support her in whatever she chooses to do."
Chelsea has also been steadily raising her own public profile: She's recently taken on a more active role in an annual university-based educational summit that her father founded, Clinton Global Initiative University, where, this past weekend, she met with students in St. Louis and helped moderate a slew of panels.
Strategic political positioning, you say? You can bet on it: Having grown up with a front-row seat to a master class in Politics 101 herself, Chelsea's clearly well-schooled in the ways of public office.
