What better way to tackle rumors than head-on and with a sense of humor?

That's exactly what Jay Leno and Jimmy Fallon are planning to do on The Tonight Show and Late Night. Rumors have been circulating for weeks now that NBC is planning to have Fallon replace Leno as the host of The Tonight Show next year, leading Leno to go on a weeklong mocking spree of the network during his monologues.

Now, a preview for Monday night's episodes of The Tonight Show and Late Night teases a fateful phone call Fallon receives from Leno after he's hounded by the press about his possible exit from NBC...

NBC notes that this will be the first time both shows have collaborated on one piece that will air as a seamless bridge between them.

NBC has yet to make an official announcement regarding Leno's future.

The Tonight Show airs at 11:35 p.m. and Late Night airs at 12:35 a.m.

(E! and NBC are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
