Stephenie Meyer isn't the only thing The Host has in common with Twilight.

Like the red-eyed vampires in the Twi-films, the aliens in the new sci-fi film had to wear not-so-comfortable blue contacts.

"I said to them, 'Can we do it in [post-production]?' because I couldn't see through them for the first few days," says The Host star Saoirse Ronan. "I was really worried because I thought, 'How am I going to be able to act when I can't see anyone?'"

But her request was politely declined because "it's like 500 grand a minute" to add the eyes in post.

Ronan eventually got used to the artificial lenses. "After the first couple of days, my eyes did adjust," she said. "You just need a lot of drops. You need to constantly be throwing saline in your eyes."
