We're less than one week away from the highly anticipated season premiere of Game of Thrones. Huzzah, we say! To celebrate the return of HBO's fantasy hit, we're rolling out interviews with the cast all week long. Yes, that's right. Every day this week we'll be sharing scoop from the Lannisters, the Starks, the Tyrells, etc. House E! Online, our words: Sharing is caring.
In today's Game of Thrones scoop-a-thon, we've got Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell) teasing the political mind games and "strong women" fans will be seeing in King's Landing.
"She's pretty much a prisoner not knowing what to do, so this season she's all about wanting to escape and trying to escape, but I don't know if that's going to happen," Turner previews of Sansa's journey in the upcoming season. "She goes through super highs and super lows this season; it's going to be a tough one."
But Turner says fans can expect to see a more grown-up Sansa. "She has a lot of big events this season. She kind of becomes a woman in not only her life, but also the game. She's definitely grown up. She's an adult in the sense that she knows how to play the game."
At least she has the Tyrell family looking out for her (at least that's what they're saying). "The Tyrells have come in and they kind of want to adopt Sansa, they want to bring her onto their side for obvious reasons," Dormer explains. "I think Margaery really genuinely empathizes with her. Margaery genuinely thanks God that she's not in her position."
Diana Rigg joins the show as Lady Oleanna Tyrell aka the Queen of Thorns this season and Dormer says we can expect to see a lot of fun "battles" between the women of King's Landing, including the Tyrells and Cersei. "What's so interesting about a show with a lot of men with swords and horses fighting battles, the fun thing about King's Landing is it's all about the power play between the women," Dormer teases. "We've got our own kind of battlefield happening."
"The Tyrells are a family of strong women, so Diana Rigg which has been amazing to work with her and really give the Lannisters a run for their money," Dormer continues. "[To] give Cersei and Tyrion Lannister a run for their money. So the dynamics have shifted, it's not immediately obvious who is going to win the game."
As for Cersei, she's also dealing with the return of her father and the ongoing battle with her brother Tyrion (Peter Dinklage). "Her father has kind of arrived back in a very big way and she's never enjoyed that," Headey says. There's kind of interesting relationships with Tyrion and Cersei, there are moments of allegiance. She does fall from a great height later."
Game of Thrones premieres Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO.
