If Morrissey fans weren't miserable before, they will be now.

The proudly gloomy artist was forced to cancel the rest of his North American tour dates, the "series of medical mishaps" he's suffered this year finally getting the better of him.

"Despite his best efforts to try to continue touring, Morrissey has to take a hiatus and will not be able to continue on the rest of the tour," a rep for the former Smiths frontman announced Friday. "Morrissey thanks all of his fans for their well wishes and thoughts. Refunds for the remaining shows are available at point of purchase."

The 53-year-old Brit was hospitalized in January with a bleeding ulcer, prompting the postponement of three shows, and then double pneumonia caused him to reschedule a date in San Francisco earlier this month.

Morrissey also apparently suffered from Barrett's esophagus, a change in the lining of the lower esophagus linked to long-term acid reflux.

A dozen remaining shows were pulled from the schedule today. We wish him a swift and speedy recovery!
