Watch: Premiere: "Spring Breakers"

Selena Gomez's role in Spring Breakers is nothing like anything else she's ever done.

She plays a church-going coed who joins three other friends (Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine) for a booze-filled and druggie spring break vacation in Florida.

And Gomez's mom was all for it.

"She loves this kind of vibe," the former Disney darling told me at this week's Hollywood premiere. "She's super into Indie movies and Indie directors…I think it was more of her pushing me and being like you should go for it."

And as Benson walked the red carpet, she admitted to being worried about the screening because it was the first time her mom was seeing the film.

"I've never been this nervous and I'm like, 'Just close your eyes every time you see something bad'…because I'm so scared," Benson said, adding, "I haven't been this nervous in a very long time and it's because my mom's here."

Fortunately, all turned out well. "I had to close my eyes a few times, but that's OK," Benson's mom told me. "I'm really proud of her."

Also at the premiere were James Franco, who plays a gun-toting drug dealer in the film, Marilyn Manson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jesse Metcalfe, Bella Thorne, Sarah Hyland, Shay Mitchell and Mark Duplass.

Ashley Tisdale is happy to see Hudgens and Gomez taking on such an edgy project. "I think we're all making our transitions and growing up," she said. "I think it's exciting."

A party, sponsored by Supra Footwear, followed at the Emerson Theatre, where Gomez slipped into a little black dress after attending in a long red Reem Acra dress.

Who did she bring with her? A gaggle of girlfriends.
