A new pope? Who cares! War in the Middle East? Snooze! Here's real, breaking, important news for you: Some of Taylor Swift's fan mail was thrown away.
Nashville resident Kylee Francescan found hundreds of letters in the dumpster of an elementary school—of all places!—while Kylee was "disposing of her own items," according to Nashville's ABC News 2 (no word as to what Kylee was throwing away).
"There were like hundreds of letters in there to Taylor Swift and I'm like, ‘Oh my gosh!' I didn't know if they were stolen [or] discarded, so I threw them in a box," Kylee told the news outlet about her shocking (and "weird," in her words) discovery. "And I'm like, ‘Somebody needs to let Taylor know.'"
Down the rabbit hole we go...
In her quest to return the possibly-stolen, possibly-discarded or possibly-something-far-more-nefarious-is-at-play letters to Ms. Swift (because, according to Kylee, "I know how much her fans mean to her"), Francescan reached out to ABC News 2.
News 2 then tracked the corresponding P.O. box to a strip mall where they were told that one of Swift's people "periodically" picks up the letters. A strip mall! How deep does this go?
Eventually, News 2 reached Taylor's rep, who informed them that she "gets thousands of fan letters every day and they are delivered to her management office. After the letters are opened and read, they are recycled."
The rep continued, "The only explanation for any letters being unopened would be that a small batch of mail that was supposed to be delivered to Taylor was accidentally put with letters headed for the recycling center. We sincerely appreciate Channel 2 bringing this to our attention, and we plan to immediately pick up the mail."
Case closed...or is it? How did this box destined for the recycling center end up at an elementary school? Who threw the box into the dumpster anyway? Who still sends fan mail, haven't you heard of Twitter? Is there a Jack in the Box in that strip mall? We want answers.
Taylor's people have reportedly since picked up the letters, which will be "handled appropriately" (i.e., recycled).
success!
