The boys of One Direction are taking some serious safety precautions.

Namely, they banned glow sticks from their Belfast concert.

No, really.

Fans reeled with excitement as Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson took the stage for the first of four highly anticipated gigs in Northern Ireland last night, and security cracked down as overzealous fans flocked to see their pop idols.

Umbrellas and plastic bottles were also banned from the Belfast Odyssey Arena, as well as recording equipment, professional cameras and glass items. Concertgoers were also asked to leave any prohibited items at the door and bags were searched before admittance was allowed.

So what's with the heightened security and the "no glow" rule?

Turns out the 1D hunks were a bit concerned after Harry was clocked in the crotch by a fan throwing a shoe at their concert in Glasgow. Although the mega-Directioner later apologized for the freak mishap, it seems the British boy-banders didn't want to take any more chances.

Hey, they are One Direction. Gotta protect the goods from those glow sticks!
