Rhoda is ailing.

Valerie Harper, best known for playing Rhoda Morgenstern on the 1970s TV series The Mary Tyler Moore Show, has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

The 73-year-old actress first broke the news to People in its latest issue.

Harper told the magazine that numerous tests showed she had leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, a rare disorder in which cancer cells metastasize into the fluid-filled membrane enveloping the brain.

Sadly, doctors have given the TV icon as little as three months to live. But the four-time Emmy winner is maintaining a brave face and a sense of grace despite it all.

"I don't think of dying," she told People. "I think of being here now."

Harper, a lifelong nonsmoker who was previously diagnosed with lung cancer in March 2009, had been making the promotional rounds for her memoir, I, Rhoda, in January when she fell ill.
