Mindy McCready has been laid to rest.

Nine days after being found dead, the country star's family and friends gathered today to honor the late singer during funeral services held at the Crossroads Baptist Church in Fort Myers, Fla.

"It was a very nice, simple service," an eyewitness who was in attendance during the ceremony tells E! exclusively. "The whole family was there. [Mindy's mother] Gayle officiated and spoke at the service and I left inspired."

Before the funeral started, four of McCready's songs played in rotation, including "Wrong Again," "Ten Thousand Angels," "I'm Still Here" and "I'll See You Yesterday."

A slideshow of McCready's family photos, which included one photo of her and her former fiancé Dean Cain, as well as pics of her when she was young, played throughout the service.

Many family members, including her mother Gayle Inge, stepfather Michael Inge and brothers Timothy McCready Jr. and Skylar, spoke and shared personal stories about McCready.

McCready's casket was closed with flowers on top and on each side with a huge portrait of Mindy. "It was very beautiful," the source says.

The service "focused on the normal side of Mindy, not the celebrated singer or trouble country star," the source says. "If you were there, you left there knowing Mindy was a normal person-someone who liked to cut up, get in some fun trouble. "

"They did a good job of celebrating Mindy's life," the eyewitness added. "The most important thing from the service was that there was a time in Mindy's life when she was really happy and she had accomplished her dreams."

Nor was the sad occasion entirely without some lighter moments.

"There was also humor," we're told. "People told funny stories about times they had with Mindy."

Inside the program, scripture was quoted. "Behold I will do a new thing. Now it shall spring forth shall ye not know it I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert," Isaiah 43:19.

Her stepfather Michael played "You Are My Special Angel" on an acoustic guitar and gave the closing prayer.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked those in attendance to make a donation to the Mindy McCready Children Trust c/o John Ammons, Edison National Bank, 13000 S. Cleveland Avenue, Fort Myers Florida 33907.
