Funnyman Jim Carrey has taken a serious turn.

The Mr. Popper's Penguins star gave his take on new gun ownership Saturday, tweeting, "Any1 who would run out to buy an assault rifle after the Newtown massacre has very little left in their body or soul worth protecting."

And needless to say, it rattled a few pro-gun peeps.

In a short post titled, "Jim Carrey's Nasty Gun Dig," for example, Fox News said Carrey "joins a long list of celebrity liberals who think the lives of those who share a different philosophy than theirs may not be worth all that much."

Carrey, didn't seem too phased by the backlash he received on Twitter and beyond, later writing Tuesday morning, "Yes, i agree with the ppl who argue that cars can be as deadly as guns but a car is a lot harder to get through the door of a classroom."

So, tell us, what do you think about Carrey's tweets?
