The Grammys are right on the horizon, and that's always a night marked with daring red carpet choices. Lady Gaga's pod arrival, anyone?

In tribute to music's biggest night, we've put together the ultimate look at stars' most forward-thinking—and sometimes controversial—ensembles.

Regularly a red-carpet standout, January Jones arrived to the Screen Actors Guild awards in a daring black-and-white Prabal Gurung ensemble with an out-there neckline and pioneering pompadour hairstyle.

Also well known for red carpet drama, Fergie hosted Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve in L.A. in a gold gown with powerful sleeves that said, "I'm so 3008—you're so 2000 and late!"

And Anne Hathaway's Les Misérables premiere outfit included a striking black column gown by Tom Ford, a dramatic cape, and dare-you-not-to-stare gladiator sandals. Pow!

Of course, it's hard to single out just one of Lady Gaga's envelope-pushing outfits. But a celestial Grammy look stands out amid the meat dresses and egg-shaped pods as fantastical and yet still pretty.
