Given Gwyneth Paltrow starred in such period flicks as Emma and Shakespeare in Love, rumors that she's eyeing a role in Downton Abbey sounds like something out of Central Casting.

Alas, it isn't so.

Star magazine (via Gossip Cop) quoted a spy as saying that after her successful turn on Glee, the Oscar-winning actress has been lobbying for a cameo on the hit ITV-PBS British costume drama's fourth season and Downton creator Julian Fellowes is supposedly "thrilled" enough that he's working on accommodating her.

And considering Paltrow is practically an honorary English citizen anyway having been married to Coldplay's Chris Martin for the past nine years, why not?

But the Goop gal's rep has subsequently the record straight, telling E! News that reports of an appearance on Downton Abbey are simply not true.

Well, one can dream.
