AJ McCarron may have guided the University of Alabama to its second straight BCS title last night, but it's his girlfriend, Miss Alabama USA Katherine Webb, who ended up the subject of all the Tuesday-morning quarterbacking.

We know all too well why Webb appeals to ESPN's Brent Musberger, but how did the beauty queen—who now makes her home in Los Angeles—end up on McCarron's radar?

The way people ends up on anyone's radar these days, of course.

Via Twitter!

"That was how it all started. They were tweeting," a friend of Webb's exclusively tells E! News. "Then the tweeting turned to texting, and then to phone calls, and then they met" at a Miss Alabama event.

"She had met guys in Los Angeles but none of them were right, and so he came along at the right time. She's a good girl. All she wanted was to meet a nice southern guy and he swept her off her feet."

And, after meeting in person for the first time last month, "it's serious," the pal adds. "They are getting along very well...She might spend a significant amount of time with him, now [that] they found one another, because she's waited a long time to meet the right guy."

McCarron, a 22-year-old junior, has not mentioned foregoing his senior year to make himself eligible for the NFL draft, so it seems likely that he's got another year of school ahead in Tuscaloosa (which would come with a shot at a mind-boggling third national championship as the Crimson Tide's QB).

Meanwhile, Webb, 23, has a game plan of her own. She's "looking to do some acting"—hence the move to L.A., where she's currently rooming with Miss California USA Natalie Pack.

We're betting that not even Alabama's formidable defensive line can stand in her way.

"I think she was doing pretty well for herself before then," McCarron told Alabama/Mississippi's WCBI-TV after the game when was informed of ESPN's Webb-heavy telecast. "She's a great girl, I'm happy that we're together."
