Getting a ticket to the Golden Globes is impossible isn't so easy.
But no matter.
While you may not be sitting next to Bradley Cooper or Anne Hathaway on the big night, we've gone straight to the pros to find out how you can feel like you're there by throwing your very own Globes viewing party.
Let the gold and red flow. The colorful combo is the theme for this year's Globes. Each table at the show will include a big bouquet of dozens of six different roses, but celebrity florist Mark Held of Mark's Garden says any flower will do. "Think red and in a gold container," he advises. "It can be a mixture of any kind of flowers as long as they're red."
Get cookin'. Celebs will be feasting on an elaborate three-course meal prepared by Suki Sugiura, executive chef of the Beverly Hilton hotel (where the Globes take place).
No need for you to go all gourmet, but do follow Sugiura's rule to meld local and global ingredients. All the vegetables for his grilled artichoke salad and flat iron and sea bass plates are from California farms.
"Make sure the food is comfortable to eat and look for crispiness and freshness," Sugiura says. "You don't want to lose the original nature and flavor of the food. So we're not using so much cream or butter. We use a tremendous amount of olive oil. Think something good for the Mediterranean."
Save room for dessert. We don't expect you to build the elaborate dessert trio of cappuccino mousse, orange sanguine and chocolate salted caramel and neither does executive pastry chef Thomas Henzi. And though he's provided a user-friendly recipe for a 10-inch cappuccino mousse at beverlyhilton.com, we say go with some ice cream—but with Globes-inspired sprinkles. "Gold leaf is readily available and it's not that expensive," Henzi says.
Make sure everyone's glasses are always full. Nothing says a big awards show like champagne. Moët & Chandon will be providing hundreds of bottles of its $58 2004 Grand Vintage Brut for Sunday's festivities, but feel free to go with your fave (i.e., less expensive) bubbly.
For a mixed drink, try the legendary Startini from the Beverly Hilton's Circa 55 restaurant. Just shake up some vodka, pomegranate juice (there's that red color again!) and ginger syrup and top with a fresh lemon. Go alcohol-free by replacing the vodka with some soda water.
And probably the best part of doing it home-style is getting to wear what you want. No formal attire required.
If Globes cohosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler can wear Converse sneakers for the show, so can you.
