The 35th Annual Kennedy Center Honors actually took place Dec. 2.

But unless you were there, you didn't get to see the awesomeness that was Heart's tribute to 2012 honoree Led Zeppelin until tonight.

Robert Plant, sitting with Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, got particularly emotional watching Ann and Nancy Wilson sing "Stairway to Heaven," backed by a gospel choir and with the late John Bonham's son, Jason Bonham, on drums—a performance that had the Twitterverse buzzing joyfully with appreciation and past honoree Yo-Yo Ma's head bouncing along with the strains of the guitars.

Lenny Kravitz took the lead on "Whole Lotta Love," a tune that had President Barack Obama grooving in the audience, his arm around wife Michelle.

"These guys redefined the rock-and-roll lifestyle," Obama said in his appreciation of the iconic rockers, prompting laughter from the audience. "We do not have video of this, but there was some hotel rooms trashed and mayhem all around. So it's fitting that we're doing this in a room with windows that are 3 inches thick—and Secret Service all around. So, guys, just settle down."

"The jams of Led Zeppelin are second to none," raved presenter Jack Black. "Just ask anyone, from Oliver Stone to Paul Ryan and everyone in between! They sang songs about love, about Vikings, about Vikings making love. You know, they say Led Zeppelin sold their souls to Satan. Come on, guys, you know you did. There's no other way to explain your ungodly talents!"
