Congrats to the POTUS!

President Barack Obama was named Time magazine's person of the year Wednesday. This is the second time the U.S. leader has held this title; he was also Person of the Year in 2008 when he was first elected to presidential office.

Time's website points out that Obama is the first Democrat in more than 75 years to get a majority of the popular vote twice. "There are many reasons for this, but the biggest by far are the nation's changing demographics and Obama's unique ability to capitalize on them," the magazine notes.

Time also states that "a younger, more diverse America" turned out at the polls to vote for Obama. "He is the first president to embrace gay marriage and to offer work permits to many young undocumented immigrants."

It's also noted that since Obama arrived on the national scene in 2004, his leadership has been "under assault," yet "he has somehow managed to keep the public's faith."

To sum it up, the mag wrote: "For finding and forging a new majority, for turning weakness into opportunity and for seeking, amid great diversity, to create a more prefect union, Barack Obama is Time's 2012 Person of the Year."
