Sure, 2012 in video games was a year of few surprises and solid sequels.
The new Wii U? Pretty cool, but we new it would be. Most of the games in our top 10 list? Sequels that improved upon already terrific titles with familiar names, things like Call of Duty and Mass Effect. But that doesn't mean 2012 wasn't super fun. In fact, it was one of the most entertaining on record.
The top game on our list, for example, can be played on your fancy HD console—or on your phone. So we played it everywhere. (Hint: zombies!) Another chart-topper is basically 21st-century Pictionary.
Oh, and half the fun of Skylanders Giants is collecting the crazy toys that power the characters. So see what had us mashing buttons, drawing watermelons with our fingers and paying too much for action figures this year.
