Adele and Taylor Swift. When it comes to their music, both had stellar years.

But who enjoyed the most success in 2012?

That would be the English songstress, according to Billboard, which just ranked her the top artist of the year. What's more, Adele's 21 album, which was released in 2011, was also named top album. Both honors were actually bestowed upon Adele last year as well.

But don't feel too bad for Swift. The gal's new disc Red did rank No. 1 on the country album charts, and she was the No. 3 overall artist just behind Adele and Rihanna.

Meanwhile, Swift's beau Harry Styles and his band, One Direction, topped the New Artist/Group list, and their debut album, Up All Night, was No. 5 on the Top Billboard 200 list.

Other performers who certainly have a lot to be proud of include Gotye, whose hit "Somebody That I Used to Know," was the top song of 2012, as well as Drake, Maroon 5 and fun., which topped the Best Male, Duo/Group and Rock charts respectively.
