How I Met Your Mother is coming back for another season.

(Note: This is pretty much the only thing that's getting me out of bed after very little sleep, as I somehow ended up at the ABC after-party and EW shindig last night, where I couldn't peel myself out of a booth with Zachary Quinto and Emilie de Ravin till the wee hours of the morning. Argh. Damn those kids for being too much fun!)

The Giant Peeper net announced its new fall schedule this morning and while Mother made the cut and will return for a third season (hurrah!), The Class, Close to Home and Jericho are noticeably absent as they have been...canceled. Sorry. Let's take a moment.

CBS also picked up four new dramas and one new comedy:

  • Viva Laughlin!  This drama, based on the BBC's Viva Blackpool, is a mystery about a casino owner. It's also a musical (you heard me right) produced by Hugh Jackman.
  • Cane:  Jimmy Smits stars in this drama about a Cuban-American family who runs a rum business in Florida.
  • MoonlightA vampire detective. No joke.
  • Swingtown:  About a town of swingers, and I'm not talking about the jump, jive and wailin' kind. I hear this one is veerrrry racy for CBS, which is why it's slated for midseason.
  • The Big Bang Theory:  From Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre, this comedy's about a computer geek who gets a hot neighbor. (Geek is so chic this season! Thank you, Ugly Betty.)

I'll bring you more later on from CBS' upfront presentation and possibly (if I make it) their party. But first, I'm off to hook up an IV drip of espresso.

(If you have any questions for new or returning CBS, CW or Fox stars, please post them in Comments, or email me with the name of the network in the subject line. If you have no questions but already have strong opinions about CBS' new lineup, vote for your fave in our upfronts message board poll!)
