Kate Middleton is pregnant. Prince William has an heir (third in line to the throne, as it happens). Yes, a royal baby is on the way. Give or take six months.

Oh, Christmas came early, all right.

And if you think the world's media is going overboard with their enthusiasm for this momentous babymaking occasion, well, they've got nothing on Hollywood, because almost as soon as St. James's Palace announced that the duke and duchess were expecting their first child, Twitter exploded with well-wishes for the happy couple. (The countdown is already on for a royal baby parody account to pop up, and...oh, phew. We knew you wouldn't let us down, Internet.)

And clearly Will and Kate have friends in high places, as President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama were among the first to comment.

"We extend our congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the welcome news out of London that they are having their first child," read the statement.
